Most of the weather stations currently listed are the property of Benmore Peak Observatory. They have been installed because we have an interest in the weather, an interest which is shared by others within the Mackenzie country. All but one of the stations (Twizel) have been acquired, installed and maintained almost entirely at our own cost. Unfortunately it is a surprisingly time-consuming task: just getting to some of the locations takes quite a long time, time which we seldom have. As a result most of the stations have yet to be completed, which is why there are usually no (current) data available to be viewed by visitors to the respective webpages. Also, the weather station webpages receive many hits per day, sometimes into the thousands. The hosting and traffic costs are borne by us, so we ask that you complain as politely as possible should we ever be offline. Usually the cause - and remedy - is out of our hands. The old Twizel weather station was replaced with a new Vaisala WXT510 in May 2006, and it is now a very accurate and reliable system. Unfortunately it hasn't been possible to alter the PLC code to allow it to update live online, but we hope to finish that part of the job sometime soon. It is our intention to add several more stations to our little network, but it all takes time and money, both in short supply at present, therefore a little understanding and forgiveness would be appreciated!
